DREAD AFFLICTION
DREAD AFFLICTION
Overthinking
One terrible affliction
Thinking gets enmeshed
Goes blind lost in emotion
Pure intuition cut adrift
Time to let go
Return
Remain
Release
Relax
Sit still as silence
Thirty minutes and reboot
Duly calm readdress the issue
If caterwauling chitcat reinvades
Stop – take ten deep breaths
Ten – one after the other
Give yourself a hug or two
Tap your baton a time or two
For you are conductor here
Call the players to order
And issue your order
Da capo – Da capo
Return
Remain
Release
Relax
And et cetera
WORRYWART
WORRYWART
When assailed by worries it is helpful
to take a few moments to calm down
using deep breathing and/or meditation.
Then list all the things you can think of
that could go wrong or cause a problem.
Divide them into two separate columns.
Column One: those you can prevent,
prepare for, minimise or else control.
Write down exactly what you will do
regarding each item to neutralise it.
Column Two: those you cannot do
anything about. Allow yourself enough
time to calmly acknowledge each one.
Then let it go, visualising yourself
breathing it out of your system.
Repeat as many times as required.
THE CUSHION
THE CUSHION
All day long
The ten thousand things
Black and white
Yes and no
One thing after another
Back to the cushion
BEYOND THE BEYOND
BEYOND THE BEYOND
What was I thinking?
I’m sure I had no idea
It thought It Itself
ALWAYS BONES
ALWAYS BONES
No meat without bones
No awareness without thoughts
Remove the bones before eating
Watch thoughts without engagement
