Let us be alone
And comfort one another
What else do we have?

About Ben Naga

The Spirit that graces me with its passing has no name and stems not from thoughts and words, though it gathers them up as it flows, but from feeling.

    Better than apart
    Be together in your hearts
    Watching flowers bloom

    • I am sure you are familiar with this:

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.

  3. Yes, I love Kahlil Gibran. It is a perfect verse. Being together but not smothering the other from being able to be alone with their self. Love is not a captor but it gives support. I do need to read more Gibran. He is not far away.

    • It was a favourite of mine and my first wife. Ironically she eventually allowed me to be alone completely by going off with someone else. Even more ironically when he then left *her* in turn. Irony on irony. I am sure it has not been lost on her. πŸ™‚

      • Be careful the Karma we make. It likes to bite in return favor.

I hate it when someone chooses someone else. But then we wouldn’t be where we are now if some of those painful changes didn’t happen. We would otherwise be someplace else, possibly suffering from disinterest.

      • Agreed. I some time ago made peace with “my” past history, especially given that I have less than total insight into things (and then some). I hope everyone involved gained from the experience.
